Description:

The EdgeStar High Velocity Portable Air Cooler (EAC421) is the most powerful, best cooling portable air cooler for home use on the market today. Don't confuse it with smaller air coolers - this is the only air cooler we have seen that boasts the power to provide relief from the heat for an entire room (up to about 250 square feet, based on our product tests). EdgeStar teamed a powerful (yet quiet) state-of-the-art centrifugal fan with an Australian-made honeycomb water curtain to perform much better than coolers from the competition. The honeycomb water curtain allows more water circulation with less resistance to airflow, and the centrifugal fan gently and powerfully "throws" a jet of air up to 25 feet - the longest air throw in the industry! Don't confuse this portable air cooler with other models on the market - the EdgeStar EAC421 portable air cooler offers features and value that the competition can't match. In addition to the above features, the EdgeStar high velocity portable air cooler also features 3 different fan speeds, the option to add ice for additional cooling, a long-lasting 5 gallon water reservoir, a remote control, a fan-only setting, and the ability to operate as a humidifier. Plus, it only uses 250 Watts to cool- that's about 1/4 the energy required by most air conditioners! Coldest Airflow: We tested this EdgeStar portable air cooler against other units currently in the market and its airflow was as much as 5°F colder than the best-performing competitor Room-Cooling Power: With its powerful centrifugal fan and honeycomb water curtain cooling system, this unit can provide cool relief to multiple people in rooms of up to 250 square feet Environmentally-Friendly: Unlike portable air conditioners, this unit uses no freon and no CFC's- and it consumes 1/4 the power of and air conditioner

Features:

5 gallon water tank, Four (4) caster wheels, Operates as a portable cooler, fan, and humidifier

Cools rooms of up to 250 square feet, Centrifugal fan provides up to 900 CFM airflow

Three (3) fan speeds; Efficient cooling technology

5Works even better than expected!Aug 15, 2008
By Nicolle
This cooler works great! I bought it for my husband to use in our 2-car garage. We're in Sacramento where most of the summer is in the 90s, with plenty of 100+ degree days. He works on cars so he has to leave the large garage door open for ventilation. Cooling the garage with such a large open area is definitely above and beyond what this is designed/expected to do, but I thought it was worth a try.

We've been impressed at just how well it works. According to the temperature gun it's typically about 10-15 degrees cooler than the outside air (depending on humidity and how long the cooler's been running). It works even better with ice in the reservoir, which drops the temperature another 10 or so degrees. There have been days when the garage is actually cooler than the house, thanks to this cooler.

Normally we use the "swing" setting to cool the whole garage, and it works well. On extra hot days, it works great to turn off the "swing" and point the fan directly at you.

The only downside is that it's very noisy. The noise doesn't matter in the garage, but in the house it's pretty noticable. We tried sleeping one night using the cooler to save on A/C costs. It was nice and cool, but the noise drove me crazy. The fan noise was fine on low, but the water dripping kept me awake. If you're a sound sleeper and/or like the dripping water sound it might be fine.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone in a dry climate who's looking for a relatively inexpensive cooling solution, especially if noise is not a factor.

5one of the best buys i ever made!!!!Jun 09, 2013
By ed willis
I love this cooler...it rocks in the high desert. It blows air so powerful that I only run it for an hour when I get home. the only minor drawback is 2 things. 1. I would like to see a different style of water gauge as this one is hard to read. 2. this is a really minor item, I would like to see 6 wheels instead of the 5 wheels. Let me tell you I had to really look at this wonderful cooler to find these items.
I LOVE IT and Highly recommend it to anyone looking to cool off. BTW, It hit 100 twice this week and I relaxed in total comfort inside.

2Not the best product for home useAug 22, 2009
By MUTT WONDERDUCK "NASA"
This device is VERY noisy; especially the dripping water. The product cannot be used in the bedroom if you're trying to sleep...it's like having the TV or radio on all night; although my kids did not have a problem when I placed it in the hallway and used the swing feature to cool both rooms at the same time.

I need to have the TV up very loud to overcome the noise from the machine when it's placed it in the family room.

Secondly, it does not seem to cool as well as advertised; it also had a horrible smell coming from the unit. After running it for a few days it disappeared.

I would research the market for another brand if you're planning on peace and quite in your home.

2Cooler than more expansive ones of the same size ! BUT.....Jun 11, 2013
By Connie C.
This cooler is really making a couple degrees cooler than most other coolers of the same size.I live in Moreno valley,CA where the summer is very hot with many 100 + degree days. The low setting of it is almost as powerful as the others high setting.
Easy to fill up the tank. The water level indicator is very big and easy to see.You can add ice cubes to the tank too.
The reason I only give it 4 stars is because it is a bit too noisy inside a bedroom as the fan is so powerful. And I am not sure if it lasts.I will keep following ups in future.
There is a minor thing I hope they will improve :the remote control comes with a holder that you can mount onto wall or something. But they don't provide with the screws. The size is very unusual that I hope I can get them from Home depot or Lowes...

Update:Aug.18.2014
When I tried to do the seasonal cleaning I found that the cooling pad cannot be removed for washing at all.I called the company and they confirmed so.All you can do is to vacuum clean the dust which really surprises me as all the evaporative coolers I bought have cooling pads that can be hose clean and replaced .Not this one! So after a couple of years you will have to buy a new one or be an expert to take it apart to replace the pad.Not a consumer friendly design.I would avoid buying it.
